Of Mice and Men
Of Mice and Men is a revered classic written by Nobel- prize winning author John Steinbeck in 1937. It portrays the tragic story of George Milton and Lennie Small, two companions trying to make a living. Their goal is to raise enough money to buy their own plot and settle down on a small farm. Of Mice and Men takes place during the great depression in Soledad, California.

So far I particularly enjoy this book. I feel the plot is deep, and the characters easy to relate to. One of my favorite characters is Curley, a small man with an inferiority complex. I see so many people like this in real life it makes the story seem more real. As I continue reading I realize more and more how strong the relationship between George and Lennie really is. It becomes quite apparent that George is Lennies protector, almost like a father-son relationship.
ReplyDeleteI continue to understand why Of Mice and Men is considered a great piece of literature. The character development and detail is amazing for such a small book. The diction Steinbeck uses with his characters adds to the flavor of the book, just like Mark Twain's pieces. Steinbeck's use of diction also seems really accurate for the time period.
