Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck

This classic story of a pair of unlikely friends is probably the most moving of Steinbeck's novels. A discerning comment on the loneliness and alienation of California's farm laborers in the 1930's. Of Mice and Men is also a gripping tale of a man's selfless love for another.
lennie,a lumbering hulk of a man with the mind of a child, and his caretaker and good friend, George, dreaming of owning a farm together. Now the boss' son has a flirtatious wife, and guileless lennie is no match for her. And as friends George and lennie has to make the most difficult decision of their lives.

  1. I like this book because it is very entertaining. The charters are awesome, George is the smarter guy and Lennie is the dumber guy who does what George says. George is essay to anger and Lennie is essay going because he is so dumb.

  2. This is by far the worst book I have read in a long time. I strongly dislike the writing style, the content, the characters, the diction, everything. In fact, the only appealing thing about this book is that it is a mere 108 pages. I tend to avoid books that aren't written from a educated person's point of view, where as this book has you really seeing into the minds of Lennie and George, who lack any real formal education. What about the characters make them fun to read about? What about the plot-line is good? Why is this book such a "great piece of literature"? Does anyone have answers, questions along the same line, or am I the only one who does not like this book?

    2. I dislike the book as well That is why I finished it as fast as I could. As for the "great piece of literature" it was probably very good at the time it was written. It is not a good book to this generation (well for most people) although I believe that if we were alive at the time this was written we would have a very different opinion. I respect the author but I disagree with the style of the book

  4. I think why I like this book so much is it really gives you a look into that past during the depression and how people interacted with not only each other but with the environment as well. The diction is another thing that I really enjoy about this book is the way they talk and what they talk about. The main characters are also very interesting the way they interact and the deep bond that is obviously between George and Lennie though i'm sure George wouldn't admit it.

  5. I think that there are other people out there that don't like Of Mice and Men, probably for the same reasons they don't understand the why or what of the book. Someone could tell you what they think the answers to your questions are. But all of the answers to your questions are in the book, to find them you can't just read this book to try to understand it, you must read the book. You have to think openly and not just say in the back of your mind while you’re reading, (I don't like this book because I don't understand it). This book has the same things as an book from a educated person's point of view, it has conflicts, solutions, and friendships. I like this book not because it's vulgar, but because is about the friendship between two men, and one of them relies on the other to survive. But not only that the characters the two encounter along the way, and the way they are described. But that is my opinion, and what I think. You must find your own answers in the book.
