Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne

A small piece of parchment with an age-old code leads Professor Hardwigg, his nephew Harry, and their Icelandic guide Hands on a never-to-be-forgotten journey down to the center of the earth. Following the trail of a man who had been dead for centuries-but who claimed to have reached the center of the earth and returned- they encounter rock tunnels, underground seas, wild weather, prehistoric animals, giant cavemen, and a might volcano...all combining to try to prevent them from completing their JOURNEY TO THE CENTER OF THE EARTH.

  1. I have both read the book and seen and love both but also I like how it keeps my attention and keeps me intrigued. What is your thought on the book?

    1. The book wasn't great but I remember liking the movie. It's been too long since I have seen the movie so I really can't say anything else.

  2. Honestly, I didn't like it too much, then again it is an illustrated kids version. There wasn't enough detail for me and I feel like nothing happened other then Professor Hardwigg, Harry, and Hans walking through a cave. Also, there wasn't enough when they got to the center. They tried crossing an ocean underground, wow, so amazing. They found bones of prehistoric, great! Except for the fact that there was a whole sentence, maybe two, about the bones. Yes, there were prehistoric "monsters" in the sea and I did like that, but I wish that part had lasted longer since it was the only interesting thing that happened in the book. What bothered me the most was when they were in the volcano. I hated that part, maybe because it seemed a little too unrealistic. Yes, seas underground with prehistoric beasts is a little unrealistic but most of the book before hand seemed like it could and did happen. I also felt like everything after they were on their way home could have happened, if the center of the earth was the way it was described.

  3. I certainly agree but then again you have to remember that it is a "kids" book so there is not going to be a whole lot of detail. Then again they did give lots of description about the bones and the prehistoric "monsters" so yes you are right why there is not as much detail in the rest of the book is beyond me but still.
