Gone-Away Lake by Elizabeth Enright

When Portia sets out for a visit with her cousin Julian, she expects fun and adventure, but of the usual kind: exploring the woods near Julian's house, collecting stones and bugs, playing games throughout the long lazy days.
But this summer is different.
On their first day of exploring, Portia and Julian discover an enormous boulder with a mysterious message, a swamp choked with reeds and quicksand, and on the far side of the swamp...a ghost town.
Once upon a time the swamp was a splendid lake, and the fallen houses along it's shore an elegant resort community. But though the lake is long gone and the resort faded away, the houses still hold a secret life: two people who never left Gone-Away...and who can tell the story of what happened there.

  1. This sounds amazing! I'm wondering if you have started to read this yet? If so, how is the beginning of it? Does it hook you in or start really boringly?

  2. How descriptive is it? Does it give lots of information that helps you discover the true mystery within, or does it leave it out and lead you to unravel it out for yourself, which gives you a sense of confidence? I am also wondering where you acquired this book and how long it is? I am really considering reading this book!

    1. Perfect amount of description for me, the book basically tells you or it has been easy for me to figure it out. I found it in the library...and you should read this book, it's good.
