Here is the first volume in George R. R. Martin’s magnificent cycle of novels that includes A Clash of Kings and A Storm of Swords. As a whole, this series comprises a genuine masterpiece of modern fantasy, bringing together the best the genre has to offer. Magic, mystery, intrigue, romance, and adventure fill these pages and transport us to a world unlike any we have ever experienced. Already hailed as a classic, George R. R. Martin’s stunning series is destined to stand as one of the great achievements of imaginative fiction.

  1. I found these books great and interesting, with good plot line and style. One of my favorite parts were the characters involvement with the plot. How about you?

  4. At first I started this series as an audiobook, for the sake of enjoying Martin's fantastical adventures whilst being occupied with other summer hobbies. The book was read by Roy Dotrice, a voice a really came to enjoy during the first third of the book. I then recently switched to a softcover version for the sake of mobility and school. However, A Game of Thrones is stellar even without narration. Martin's writing is complex and engaging, with hidden hints and details necessary for experiencing the immersive story. Martin also uses many intriguing word that I have seldom heard elsewhere. His writing is also almost entirely psychological, bouncing between characters with astounding ease; this adds more eye catching thoughts and intricate emotions that a typical third person story. A Game of Thrones has been a perfect transition from the Tolkien books that I finished not a month ago, offering no disappointment in detail or story.
