Tamar By Mal Peet

In the "Hunger Winter" of 1944, two undercover operatives parachute into Nazi-occupied Holland. They are spies of the Allied forces, sent to provide support for the Dutch resistance movement.

Half a century later, a fifteen-year-old girl named Tamar inherits a box from her grandfather containing a series of clues and coded messages. out of the past, another Tamar emerges--a man involved in the terrifying world of resistance fighter-- and she is his namesake. His is a complex one of passionate love,jealousy, and tragedy set against the daily fear and casual horror of the Second World War. Unraveling it will transform Tamer's life.

  1. Very interesting story at the moment. The winter is in full swing, and with it, need of provisions and other necessities. However as the German resistance pushes on, it becomes harder and harder to get resources. Nonetheless, Tamar and Dart figure out a way to both send a coded message, and send a list of provisions to HQ in London.

  4. Hi, Gordon! This book sounds fascinating. Did you put it on hold for the summer? I love novels abouth WWII. Have you ever read Snow Treasure? It was a favorite of mine when I was in 4th grade (I KNOW--- amazing that I can remember back that far.) I'm interested to know how this story develops.
