The Great Tree of Avalon: Child of the Dark Prophecy by T. A. Barron

Long ago, Merlin planted a magical seed that beat like a heart-a seed that grew into the Great Tree of Avalon. For centuries,  this world has  flourished as a land of wonder, and mystery, a link between Heaven and Earth, a place where all creatures could live in harmony.

Now, though, Avalon reels from brutal attacks, mysterious droughts, and stranger evils yet. Then one night, just as the elusive Lady of the Lake predicted, all the stars in the sky suddenly go dark.

The fate of Avalon now rests with three young people: Tamwyn, a homeless wilderness guide: Elli, an escaped slave turned priestess; and  Scree, an eagleman with a startling secret. One of them is the true heir of Merlin, the only person who can save Avalon . . . and one of them is the dreaded child of the Dark Prophecy, and the person fated to destroy it.

  1. So far I like this book. I'm not far in it yet, but it's ok. The detail is cool, but I like the most, is the fact that they speak funny.

"We ain't seekin' no nest, Obba, ye woodenbrain! We're seekin' a child. An' some sort o' stick, remember?" said Ossyn.

I think Ossyn said that but whatever it doesn't say their names. Anyway, I love the way they talk and their names are funny to!

  2. I think my favorite character name is Tamwyn, and his name means Dark Flame. It's somewhere close to meaning that. Scree...I like scree to because he's an eagleboy so it makes sense.

  3. Do you not like Elli? If so, why not? It seems to me you really enjoy the characters, however do you enjoy the plot line as well?

    1. I do enjoy the characters, and yes i like the plot line. Sometimes the plot line can be interesting and other times boring, but i usually just skip the boring parts. Elli? I don't think I've gotten here yet but maybe.

    2. Is it confusing for you when you skip certain parts of the book? I feel like you would miss some of the plotline- the author put in in for a reason, or do you find they are just rambles of uselessness?

  4. Kahla, why does "Scree" make sense for an eagleboy? Is that what it sounds like- can he fly? Are there other characters who have traits like animals?

    1. Scree makes sense for an eagleboy because, in my opinion, eagles make a screeching noise, so scree just makes sense. I don't know if he can fly or not I just know that Tamwyn is Scree's brother. Maybe there are other characters that have animal traits. There could be I'm not very far in the book yet.

  6. What made you decide to pick this book up? Is it part of a series that you started before? It's always interesting to see what people do to expand their reading repertoire.
