Haiku Moment

Haiku Moment an Anthology of Contemporary North American Haiku edited by Bruce Ross is a wonderful book filled with all different lengths of Haiku. They range from one page to several, and each one has its own rhythm and theme that makes it interesting. This book can either be very interesting or very boring depending on of you like Haiku, and what mood you are in.

  1. I (usually) enjoy this book because the Haiku are well written. They are so many different kinds it's easy to be swept away. The word choice is so important, and one wrong word can change the whole feel of the poem. It is very interesting to see the choices each author made.

  2. What are the Haiku about, nature? People? How are the Haiku different from others you've read?

    1. There are many different kinds, of nature, people, pets, and all sorts of different things. They are different from the others because no two haiku are exactly the same. They also seem to have better word choice, and are way more "related" to themselves and less random.

  4. are the Haiku's in a story setting or are they just a random pile of Haiku's?

    1. They are not all telling the same story, its a compilation of many different authors and their haikus.

  6. Reading this has taught me that even though only 17 syllables can be used, the Haiku's can be very different. More so than others, there have been really weird ones that seemed more abstract than anything else. I seem to enjoy the shorter ones more, versus the ones that carry out longer.

  7. Hi, Matilda- I'm curious about what you mean by "shorter" and "carry out longer," since I think of haiku as always being the same length and form. It's an intriguing idea!
