Safe Haven by Nicholas Sparks

When a mysterious young women named Katie appears in the small North Carolina town of Southport, her sudden arrival raises questions about her past. Beautiful yet self-effacing, Katie seems determined to avoid forming personal ties until a series of events draws her into two reluctant relationships: one with her plainspoken neighbor, Jo; and another with Alex, a widowed store owner with two young children. Despite her reservations, Katie slowly begins to relax her guard, putting down roots in the community and becoming increasingly attached to Alex and his family. But even as Katie begins to fall in love, she struggles with the dark secret that still haunts and terrifies her… a past that set her on a fearful journey across the country, to the oasis of Southport. With Jo’s support, Katie eventfully realizes that she must choose between a life of transient safety and one of riskier rewards…and that in the darkest hour, love is the only true safe haven.

  1. This book is a romance as you probably could already tell by the introduction from the back of the book. This book explains a tragedy that has happened to this girl named Katie and she had to change completely: her hair, body image, clothing style, and had to change herself completely. She had to move hundreds of miles away to get away from this tragedy. This tragedy led to a completely new life for Katie. She found a very cheep home to stay in and didn't have a car. She finally finds a job as a waiter to have some type of income coming in so that she had money to buy food and fix up her house. There was a local store that always had everything she needed and if it didn't this man named Alex would always make sure it was in the next day waiting for her.

This book starts out not telling you when she is moving and then begins to lead into what happened when she starts falling for Alex. Alex took very good care of her. This is as far as I am so far.

  4. I like romance books. What I truly like about this book is that it dives into a story and then plays a flashback of what her past life consisted of.

After Sparks gets in your mind, he sweeps you off your feet. Readers truely feel like a true member of the town of SouthPort.

Even though I predicted the ending early on, I was still enchanted by Katie’s story, and wanted to continue to read further. Overall Safe Haven is a fantastic novel; it has a connectable series of events that makes you feel a part of the storyline.

It also depicts two psychological madders that inspire both sympathy and resentment. With an interesting twist at the end, this novel should be read by all Sparks fans. If you have a spare moment, snag a copy of Safe Haven, by Nicholas Sparks. It is sure to interest you.

  6. Sabrina, This sounds like a good one. I like the way he describes setting-- where does this take place? Did you like his descriptions?

  7. How does he write the flashbacks? Sometimes when authors try to write flashbacks it makes things more confusing, mostly because it wasn't established that one was happening. Do the flashbacks make it more or less interesting?
