Jason's cat has nine fantastic lives--and he's taking Jason along for the ride!
Gareth is definitely not an ordinary cat. For one thing, he can talk. For another, he's got the power to travel through time. And the instant he tells this to Jason, the two of them are in ancient Egypt, on the first of nine amazing adventures Jason will never forget.

I started this book last night and I've only reached the second chapter in the book. They're in Egypt currently being escorted to the pharaoh because Gareth has special powers, and abilities. This is where I left off.
ReplyDeleteLloyd Alexander makes this story fairly easy to follow but interesting at the same time. The complaint i would have is that he does not describe the characters in much detail. I'm unable to picture what Jason looks like.
What does the cat have to do to travel through time? I cant just imagine it as a flick of the paw.
ReplyDeleteI've also read books by Lloyd Alexander I found that when I was younger he tended to drag on to were I couldn't stand it anymore and I had to put the book down for awhile. You mentioned that the cat has nine lives and every time he goes on a adventure he looses one. What does the character have in common with you if anything?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure, it just does, maybe i will find out later in the story.
ReplyDeleteHaha i get your point alden, we have very much in common
ReplyDeleteCurrently the two have escaped from the pharaoh and are on their second adventure together, in rome. Gareth is sought by the romans because of the old cats company, the company escorts Caesar and they want a mascot, Gareth preferably. on the way to caesar the kind legionaries take them through rivers and forest past a mountain at the base of which is a small Gaulish village. The two encounter trouble when they are separated and taken hostage by the Gaulish people.
ReplyDeleteThey are now on their third adventure in Scotland. I have not gotten far in this chapter, but I'm not sure really what is happening because it is rather confusing.
ReplyDeleteI wish the Lloyd Alexander would put some real action into it, and each adventure goes way to fast.
This book is very repetitive, every adventure is based one the same structure as the one before. There is not a lot of plot in the story, because every hundred pages or so they are in a different place.
ReplyDeleteThis next adventure in japan has turned out to be better than expected. A young emperor has always wanted cats. Along with a bunch of kittens, Gareth and jason are invited into the palace to be the kittens keepers. The young emperor is lost in his view of cats, which is that cats should wear, eat, and do the same as humans, but what he does not know is that this could be cause for disaster.
