Lord of The Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien

This is really good book, but wish there was a little less description. But some parts have a lot of action. All in all its a great book.

  1. I like the movies, to a certain extent. way, way too much description. I tried to read the first book but got bored of all the description, and I am not a big fan of fantasy anyway.

  2. I just finished rereading the series earlier this week. I really enjoy them, even though their pace is not what we have come to expect from adventure fantasy novels. If you can adjust your expectations and get into seeing what's happening to the characters instead of just reading it (which is easier for faster readers, and even easier once you've read them more than once), I believe Tolkien has crafted an enticing, even gripping, and awe inspiring tale. I guess this is why it is regarded as the the progenitor of the modern fantasy movement.

  3. I agree, and as you said they should be less descriptive. The books were really good but it got boring during certain parts. I knew that I should have read those parts but I felt that I understood what was being said fairly quickly. The best parts were always the shortest, those are my only complaints. All in all a fantastic trilogy and I would recommend it only to people who are not impatient.
