A place for the educated exchange of information about books, reading, writing, and more. Format: title "Title of book" by Author. The post is the synopsis from the back of the book. Your comments are your feelings on the book, author, writing style, etc. Your comments are where you make your connections to the book and talk about what the book means to you and WHY!
Point Blank was a very good book, like Storm Breaker it had mystery and action. I like this book for those reasons and for the fact that you can never tell whats going to happen next.
ReplyDeleteWhat is it about, is it about some bunny wabit that's being chased by coyotes, James Bond styles secret agent, or anything?
ReplyDeleteI can't tell you that because it will tell people who might want to read it whats going to happen.
ReplyDeleteAlden,
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your not revealing the plot. However, echoing Hunter's question, do you think it's on the level of James Bond or Bugs Bunny? Are people risking their lives? Is it full of spies? I think you can give some clues to the themes of the book without giving too much away.
Is this book realistic or fantasy? How does the author keep you guessing what's going to happen?
I think its more James Bond then bugs bunney. people are risking there lifes a lot in this book.Yes its full of spies. Its fantasy and I really don't know the answer to your last question.
ReplyDeleteAlden,
ReplyDeleteIn reference to my last question, try to pinpoint a time when you were excited because you didn't know what was going to happen next. Did you want to keep reading, even though it was time for bed? Were you thinking about the story all day? Then try to reflect why you were so caught up in the book. What was going on? What did you think might happen? Did a chapter end on a cliffhanger? Could you imagine that something big was about to happen? Or maybe the author surprises you with twists and turns. Maybe missing characters suddenly appear. Maybe a dragon flies in out of nowhere, and you didn't even know there were dragons in this story.
It is a hard question, but it's the way I want you to start paying attention to your reading. For example, many students have identified that, in the _Redwall_ books, the chapters jump back and forth between simultaneous plot lines. Often chapters end with some foreshadowing of a big fight about to happen. Rarely does a chapter end at the end of an episode, except at the very end of the book. These techniques are the way Brian Jacques keeps the reader hooked. How does Anthony Horowitz do it?
Yes I alaways do want to ceap reading when its time for bed.No I wasn't thinking about the story all day just a little bit.I was so caught up in the book becuase somethings alaways happening. I thought that the evil person was just brain washing the kids. What do you mean cliffhanger. Yes I could imagine that something big was going to happen. He does put twists and turns in the book.Anthony Horowitz I think that he just keeps puting something exciting in the book.
ReplyDeleteAlden,
ReplyDeleteDoes Alex (I'm assuming it has the same main character) lose anything? Does he have some friends who get blown up? That's usually how books surprise me. I know the main character can't die halfway through the book, but one of his friends might be killed off. That possibility usually lends suspense. I was thinking about the _Redwall_ books. I'm often staying up late trying to finish them, even though I know it will all turn out okay. I guess I want to see how it will happen.
No he dosn't really lose anything excepte for a friend who gets shot or moves to a differnt country.
ReplyDeleteAlden,
ReplyDeleteHe doesn't lose anything except a friend who gets shot?! That's nothing? You must be more jaded than I thought if that's nothing. When James Bond's partner was killed, it was a sad moment in the movie (I forget exactly which moment it was). Even though James Bond is practically invincible, he was still vulnerable. This vulnerability made the movie interesting because he would suffer in some way. It sounds like a similar thing happens to Alex. He may be almost invincible and all-powerful, but he can lose friends and get stopped from completing his mission. That's one way Horowitz can make you care about what happens. If you knew that nothing would happen to the good guys and everything they tried to do would work easily, I bet it wouldn't be a very good book.
But the friend is going to survive. In the forth book his friend gets captured and he has to go rescue her but in the end everything just turns out fine.
ReplyDeleteAlden,
ReplyDeleteDo you think there will be any romantic interest between Alex and his friend? Do you want there to be? I bet there were moments when you weren't so sure everything would turn out okay.
I also wonder how Alex changes through these books. How does he grow or develop?
