Set in the Deep South, this Newbery Medal-winning novel tells the story of the great coon dog, Sounder, and the poor sharecroppers who own him.
During the difficult years of the nineteenth century South, an African-American boy and his poor family rarely have enough to eat. Each night, the boy's father takes their dog, Sounder, out to look for food and the man grows more desperate by the day.

ReplyDeleteWhat made you decide to read it? Have you read other work by this author?
ReplyDeletebecause the back sounded good and it looked like a good book.
ReplyDeleteIn my book its about a dog named sounder. He was named that because he had a loud and smooth bark. And it spends a long time describing the dog and the house. Im now at page 16 nothings happening I know that its only page 16 but but I here the books good but Im going to keep reading.
ReplyDeleteIn sounder the story took a bade turn the father was arrested and sounder tried to save him and ran after the wagon when they war running and got shot. I stopped reading for a while when the boy was putting a piece of sounders ear in his overalls.
ReplyDeleteWhy did you take a break from the book? Was the plot too slow to keep your attention? How do you think the author could have avoided this issue?
