It gives life. It deals death. It watches all.
Finn cannot remember his childhood. He cannot remember his life before Incarceron--a prison that has been sealed for centuries, where inmates live in cells, dilapidated cities, and unbounded wilderness. No one has ever escaped. But then he finds a crystal key and a girl named Claudia.
Claudia's father us the Warden of Incarceron. And Claudia is about ti become a kind of prisoner herself, doomed to an arranged marriage. If she helps Finn in his escape, she will need his help in return.
But they don't realize that there is more to Incarceron than meets there eye. Escape will take their greatest courage and cost far more then they know...because Incarceron is alive.

I originally found this book hard to get into because the way the author goes back and forth between characters, prison life, and modern life is confusing. Once I got farther into the book though I found it easier to understand. I would have liked it better if the author had given more of a background to the story because I feel like I was suddently thrown into the middle of a story rather than the beginning.Other than that though, I find this book really intriguing because there's a lot of detail put into it. Another thing that I found interesting is that the book seems to intertwine modern/future life and life farther back in time because the people have technology that is more advanced than what we have, but they also resort to travel by horse and things like that. I would suggest this to anyone looking for a book that is really unlike any other and who doesn't mind the little bit of confusion in the beginning of the story.
