Jonas's world is perfect. Everything is under control. There is no war or fear or pain. There is no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the Community.
When Jonas turns twelve, he is singled out to receive special training from The Giver. The Giver alone holds the memories of the true pain and pleasure of life. Now it's time for Jonas to receive the truth. There is no turning back.

In the beginning of the book, Lois Lowry talks about how Jonas one of the main characters is frightened because of something that happened in Jonas's past. Then he goes on to talk about what it was that frightened him and why it mattered. Plus, by writing this book Lowry is trying to tell us what is valuable in life and in our communities.
ReplyDeleteSo, how did all of that make you feel? Have you ever been in a similar situation? Don't just tell us what goes on in the story (in fact, don't tell us that at all, you might spoil the story for someone else!) Tell us how things made you feel, and WHY! Tell us what you liked about the way the author did her job, and WHY! Tell us how you connect with the characters (or not) and WHY!
DeleteDo you like any of the characters? How do you feel about Jonas? Also, do you like the way the sentences are formed and how Lois Lowry writes?
ReplyDeleteI just started reading the giver again and I sat down and red for a straight hour I’m vary existed to read it for the second time because this is the first book that ever made me shed a tear and make me want to punch something. That is why I am reading it again and that I am reading at my one paste.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy Jonas as a character he is very sensitive and he kind of reminds me of myself when I was little. Everything Lois Lowry writes flows into everything else.
ReplyDeleteWhat do you mean by everything... flows into everything else? This is the kind of thing we're looking for in our Lit blog.
